Power Cord Kit is rated out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Seabee9320 from It's a plug I installed new cabinets and had to remove the existing garbage disposal. When I removed it it was hard wired to the switch because of the electrical code. I prefer a plug so I can unplug it if I need to so I know the power is off. Installing the plug was simple as the instruction told me which wire was the power and neutral. Reinstalled the disposal and everything worked as it is supposed to. Took me all of 5 minutes to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Tangle from No instructions Had to go online to determine which side of the cable went to black and white. Considering it would only take 2 lines on the packaging that is covered with promotional information or a 1 page insert, this is not really acceptable. Especially for an item twice the price of a generic cable kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by QqualityNotQuantity from About to purchase, but disappointed and annoyed simultaneously. I read ratings from various sources, reviewed product information, accessories, and pricing. I am somewhat biased toward purchasing because of the 7-year in-home warranty accompanying the product - top of the line InSinkErator Prestige item. I was, however, upset about what I call "nickel and dimeing" me to purchase accessories - some of which should be included in the initial purchase! It makes one think you don't want the price of your item to go over a particular psychological price point. A quality organization should be just that in everything they do, or strive to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jaredb26 from No Power Cord Included? What a joke, you charge an additional $12 for the power cord? It's nearly impossible to remove the old one from the insinkerator I'm replacing after three years of use. I'm returning the insinkerator and going with a competitor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DDDD from Charging extra for essential parts I am replacing my current Bager .5 HP as it is no longer functional after only 3 years of minimal use as I compost vegetable material and eat little meat, not too much is put through the disposal. The electrical wires became unconnected inside the unit and though I was able to reconnect them by removing the metal plate on the bottom for access but the "red button" overload protector, which was barely attached by a flimsy clip, became unattached, inaccessible, and unusable. Now to get a new working unit you must buy an "accessory" power cord.

is the strain relief clamp sold separately?
Is the strain relief clamp that's part of the power cord kit sold separately? Or is the only way to get the clamp to buy the entire kit? I only need the clamp piece here, but have only been able to find the kit in stores. Thanks!
This is a very common 3/8" NM romex connector sold at every home center and electrical supply store. Less than $2 to purchase.

Which wire is which?
The instructions say to attach the white wire to the white wire, however, there is no white wire on the power cord kit. Which is which?
There are three wires moulded together with black insulation. Note than when you pull them appart to attach to the unit that one of the wires is wrapped in a ribbed insulator while the other wire is wrapped in a smooth insulator. The third wire (in the center) is green and this is the ground wire. The ribbed black wire is connected to the white wire while the smooth black wire is (hot) connected to the black wire .

why are the wire colors different from the directions?
Hi, this is Jerica from InSinkErator Customer Service. We use different black wire combinations (black w/ white stripe, black w/ yellow stripe) as part of our visual factory. Overloads come to the line with the black wire on them and they can tell by the wire what unit it goes into by the wire color combo as a double check to the part number. Per the Cord Kit instruction, one wire (the one with the ribs) will always connect to the white wire. Across all our disposer lines, there will always be a solid white wire and a black or black wire combination. Per the Cord Kit instructions the smooth Cord Kit wire will then connect to the black. On all our disposer this wire will be either solid black or a combination of black and another color; currently either Black/White or Black/Yellow, depending on model, but it will always contain black to indicate that it is the black wire as per the Cord Kit instructions.
