Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good product. Torture to install. I researched disposals and found this to be the best option. It has not disappointed. The installation, however, was a nightmare. Everything was going well until the part where I had to lift and twist on. The unit is heavy and the small area makes it difficult to install. It was difficult to line up the slots, and I found that, I would get 2 slots on but not the 3rd. I knew I would not be able to do this the traditional way, so I made a wooden platform, positioned the unit under the site and gradually put wedges under the unit until it was in position to be twisted on. This worked beautifully. I would recommend the company make a tool to elevate the unit safely and easily. If I can do it, I'm sure their engineers can. I spoke with a plumber who came to me as a patient, and told him I had difficulty initially installing a disposal unit. The first thing he said was that it's a nightmare to lift and twist the unit. I think development of a tool would be a good investment for the company. I think both amateurs and professionals would purchase it. Oh, I'm 73.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garbage Disposal Replacement We were satisfied with both of our Evolution disposers, but one stopped working. Called local representative after try to manually crank disposer, and she said that a seal had gone bad. So we ordered another one to replace it. I disassembled the old one and installed the new one with no problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like this product very much. It is powerful and quiet. My previous Insinkerator disposal lasted 15 years and I only changed it because I was getting a new sink. It worked perfectly. This new unit is quitter and more powerful. The only way I could rate it 5 stars is when I know it lasts as long as the last one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quieter than previously owned disposal. Our plumber said this is the best make on the market. We had a different make previously, but found it to be quite noisy. This new one is faster in handling the food and is quieter. We're very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This unit is very quiet The unit was recommended as a replacement for the older 444 disposer, however was a bit wider so required some plumbing modifications. Also the instructions could be better written as one of the parts (baffle collar) was not even addressed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product is very quiet when running! Our 6 year old insinkerator leaked in the bottom of our cabinet. Thank goodness I noticed it right away as we are leaving on an extended vacation. We upgraded and so far we are very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality at good price Quiet unit Replaced existing unit that rusted out. Stainless steel should make this one last longer. Every quiet unit. The old one made so much noise it was a safety feature. This one uses a wall switch to turn on. Keep focused. It is so quiet you might not notice it is on.

I need to order a stopper for the compact but feel the opening appears smaller than the norm and would require a slightly smaller stopper. Is this correct? Is there a part number I could get?

My Evolution Compact was very quiet. It still works but is making noise.

Asked by: Alresidue
You might have something stuck in it. Look very carefully inside the top and look for anything that might not belong. Could be something steel or plastic and may be a small piece. If you have to remove the unit to look do that but do not turn it on, disconnect or unplug the unit before removing or putting anything in it.

Why will dishwasher not drain when hose is connected to the disposer?

I replaced a badger model disposer with a Evolution Spacesaver model. Now the dishwasher will not drain when the hose os connected to the disposer. If I disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer it will drain with no problem.

LOUD intermitent BANGing...

Grinds and disposes of waste properly, motor spins freely, nothing visible in chamber,no leaks, and has never tripped the reset button,,, but the loud banging keeps my wife from using it. Sounds like it is coming apart inside but the unusual thing is, the bang is not constant, meaning it is not a steady ryhtymic banging, it can happen at start up or after a few seconds. We have had this product aprox 11 months. And with this being one of your "better" product lines we are highly dissatisfied with the product, especially if you consider the cost of the "evolution" series Please Help

Yesterday, the water in the sink started to drain very slowly, as if a drain is clogged. What should I do?

The only thing I can think of that might have clogged it was some cooked kale (about 1 cup) I ground recently. Should I use a chemical drain clog remover?

remove the connection to the drain at the disposer. probably hair, strings, fat or other stuff right there blocking the drain.

My insinkerator Evolution Compact is leaking at the tailpipe mount area.

The tailpipe mount appears to be cracked, but I think that the discharge from the container body/motor joint is also causing problems. It looks like the discharge is now misshapen.

I have an Evolution Compact disposal. It was installed without a dishwasher connected to it.

SInce there is no dishwasher connected, the discharge pipe inside the unit is still plugged. Unfortunately the short section of the pipe inside the unit fills with debris over time and creates significant odor problem. Is there any way or any suggestion as to how to prevent debris from accumulating in the recesses of the pipe? Can it be plugged from the inside? I realize if there was a dishwasher connected, the flow through the pipe would clear the debris regularly, but that isn't the setup we have.

Why can't I use hot water while grinding food?

My manual says I should use cold water while grinding food in the evolution compact. Why is this necessary?

Hot water can cause expansion of tight tolerances and some disposer manufacturers recommended cold water. Hot water could cause the metal parts to make improper contact.

Comparison between Evolution Compact and Evolution Essential

I searched in vain for a direct comparison of your individual models, then compared the pdf spec sheets for these two. It looks like the only differences are a smaller grind chamber and a shorter in-home warranty (4 years versus 6). The space savings seems to be 3/4" in diameter and 1/2" in height, which produce the smaller grind chamber dimensions. Are there any other differences between these models? Thanks- Bob
Asked by: TheBob
I believe that if you go to the Home Depot website you can choose the two that you are interested in and click on 'compare'. It will bring up a chart with the two you selected and you can see which one fits your needs. Hope that this helps!

Water doesn't drain completely from the disposer after it's used.

We're told this is due to the disposal being lower than the drain piple. Is there any chance that replacing the current disposal with a compact model would make a difference by raising the level of the disposal? This came up during a kitchen remodeling.
Asked by: rabbit
I had that problem with my old insinkerator. The exit on the new Evolution Compact was slightly higher than the old one and it solved the problem.
