Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed with this product compared to the old one. Very satisfied with job it does. Never seems to struggle with anything it garberates. Also very impressed on how quiet it is. Can hardly hear it when it is turned on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and quiet! I purchased this model as a replacement for a cheaper and louder garburetor which was showing its age. I had a plumber install it (to be on the safe side) and was amazed when it started up for the first time! Talk about quiet! Since then, I have been impressed by how much grinding power the "Excel" has; nothing fazes it! It has very strong suction, is easy to keep clean (putting ice cubes through it really works) and does the job I need it to. It's pricey, yes, but worth the investment - especially if you're putting a lot of scraps into it. A superb product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built and quiet Have had this product for over 30 years and replaced the last one even though it was over 17 yrs old and working perfectly. We replaced it because it was part of a kitchen remodel and we wanted new appliances. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet and powerful. As far as garbage disposals go, this one is amazing. I'm always impressed with how quietly it runs even with harder food items. It even looks very nice, not that anyone will see it under the sink. But it's good to know Insinkerator didn't mail it in just because this appliance sits out of sight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monster disposal! This thing is a beast. EXTREMELY quiet (almost can't tell it's working) and very strong. I installed this unit as I completed a kitchen remodel replacing a 1/2 horse model. Attached it to a Koehler cast iron apron sink and an air actuating button through the countertop. I don't think you can have to much disposal. I don't think there is anything that we can't put down it. We used to have problems with the smaller model clogging up with potato peels and other vegitable peelings. No more. I watched a video of someone putting whole pieces of fried chicken in it while talking about it. No raising of voice needed. Effortlessly just ate everything up without even trying. Truly is an amazing disposal. Zero issues or complaints. I can't imagine it being any better. Expensive but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. Worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love ❤️ it!! I decided to buy this hoping it will be as good as the reviews said. It's the best disposal I've ever owned. It's very quite and so far easily grinds anything I put down the sink. I've had it a couple months and am very glad I sprung for this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really improved over 20 years We replaced a 20 year old burned out disposal of the same brand. That one worked well for two decades until it understandably died. This Evolution Excel is really powerful, quiet and efficient. I like the intermittent blade reversal feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, yet quiet What a superb disposal !! Very powerful 1 HP motor, yet very quiet. Such an incredible improvement over what the builder installed. Was easy to install using the existing PVC pipes, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Evolution Excel is Top of the Line I purchased the Excel model to replace a 15 year old Evolution Premier that was still running but the blades were starting to dull. It took me 2 hours to uninstall the old model and install the new one. There were no issues with the install - just follow the instructions. This unit is very powerful but is not as quiet as I thought it would be. It is not loud but just a little noisier than I hoped. Not a big deal but I love the power. This is a great unit and highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY QUIET AND DOES A GREAT JOB Our previous disposer was 10 time nosier. When the previous disposer quit working we purchased another brand which was terrible. Noisier and didn't get rid of the waste so we returned it and then purchased this one. It works great and is incredibly quite. Would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product has worked as promised. I had professional installment. therefore can't rate installment ease. It was an Insinkerator disposal replacement I was happy with the original one (had a 1.1hp motor and lasted several years) there seems to have been much improvement since I bought the original.
Date published: 2017-08-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big improvement My old disposal (NOT an Insinkerator) froze up and I could not break it free. I replaced it with an Insinkerator Select Plus 3 and I highly recommend this product. It was easy to install, it's fast and it is super quiet. A big improvement over what I had before.
Date published: 2017-08-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Disposal!!! My old disposal finally bit the dust (and leaked water all over my under-sink cabinet) and I need a new one quickly. I saw the reviews for the Evolution Excel and was sold. Although a little pricey, it is worth the price (so far at least). Very quiet operation (although not as quiet as I expected based on the reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and Powerful So far no issues with this product....it runs very quiet and eats everything we give it!
Date published: 2017-08-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet and powerful This garbage disposal is very quiet and seems to chew up anything I throw at it. My only complaint and it's not really a bad thing is that the rubber gasket where the food goes through is so tight that water backs up into the sink. I have to push something down or hold it open so water can drain. Other than that, easy install. Very large but that was expected with this horsepower.
Date published: 2017-08-20
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insinkerator 1 hp. This disposal replaces same model which was about 20 years old. I think that outlasts the expected longevity of a disposal. I hope the quality of this machine is as good. I specifically wanted the 1 hp because it is more powerful and able to do the job more efficiently than lesser h.p. disposals..
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product We had a previous insinkerator for 30 years which we decided to replace with a new unit. Fortunately, the new unit fit exactly like the previous unit with no changes to plumbing. The new unit is much quieter than the old unit, and is very efficient in grinding up food bits. We would highly recommend this unit.
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything promised plus. Quieter than I expected. Very efficient. Had it installed by professional but anyone handy with plumbing tools could probably "DIY". Fit perfect under single drain sink. May need electrician to provide outlet or hardwire if this is the 1st install.
Date published: 2017-08-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Grinds almost everything. The cheaper one will not grind a lot of things this one will.
Date published: 2017-08-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, efficient and quiet disposal The disposal grinds up everything very quickly and with little noise from the disposal unit itself. Most of the noise is just the sound of water from the faucet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a beast...love it, ultra quiet! I had my original builder grade insinkerator finally go....so based on others that I have done before, this was a great price for one of the best units out there. I would definitely recommend.

It most likely overheated and popped the thermal breaker. Make sure it's off, and push the red button on the bottom. If that doesn't work, check the plug.

Top (visible) grinders change directly at each turn on?

Just installed the new Evolution Excel. Runs, is very quiet. I noticed that it pauses for a moment before turning on with a slight hum. Once it kicks into operation the grinders start turning. Then the next time I turn it on it has the same pause and then the grinders start, but in the opposite direction. Is this normal?

can I grind banana peels? what kind of bones? steak bones? turkey bones? melon skins?

Asked by: newgrinder
I always stay away from grinding stringy foods such as banana peels, celery, corn silk, etc. I tore apart a brand new disposal that had been used to try to grind corn silk. Quite a job, but I got it done. Lesson learned and we've avoided grinding stringy foods since. Grind an orange or lemon peel once a week and disposal smells great!

French Press Coffee Grinds

Hi I don't have a garden to dispose of my coffee grinds in but I would like to know that I can dispose of them in my Evolution Excel on a regular basis? Running cold water, turning on the disposal, and then disposing of the grinds and letting the water and disposal run a little longer after grinding should be okay? Is that correct? Thank you!
Asked by: Seek
Should not be a problem as long as you run lots of water. We put everything in ours, even grease. But make sure you run hot water with grease long enough to clear your lines, otherwise the grease can congeal and clog. That's why the manufacturers always tell you not to use hot water. But hot cleans everything out the best, as long as you let it run awhile.

COFFEE FILTERS O.K. TO GRIND?

It''s hard to empty coffee grounds into the disposal. Can I just put the filter with the grounds in the disposed & grind it up? I have a new Evolution Excel.

I would never attempt to grind the filter along with the coffee grounds. We've had no issue disposing of the grounds alone. It's easy to rinse the filter to rid it of the grounds, so why tempt fate?

how to turn on the disposal

Asked by: larchmont
It has to be wired to switched power. Typically there is either a switched plug under your sink or wiring to hook up to it directly to a switch. They sell a power cord kit seperatley to allow you to plug it in.

Can a sink top air switch be used on the Excel?

I have just installed the Excel, which is performing well so far, but there is nowhere on the unit for the air switch hook up. We had the hole drilled in the countertop when the house was built, so don't want to be left looking at that! There is nothing in the instructions showing that the air switch can be added. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks
Asked by: Rodmills
Insinkerator makes an air switch in either a single or dual plug. The air switch plugs into a regular outlet and the disposal plugs into the switch. Then there is a vacuum tube from the air switch to the counter top button that controls on and off. The button comes in many different finishes. Very easy to install by an individual.

JohnC, Had the same issue. Called the company - check your literature that came with the unit - they first gave me the name of a local service tech, who gave me the run-around. Your local service guy may be better. I called the company again and suggested they send me a new unit, which they did. I removed the old unit and installed the new one in less than an hour. Very easy installation - especially since I had never installed one before.

You can and I don't believe it will hurt your disposer. I would be more concerned about it creating a blockage in your p trap and clogging your line. We always just dump them in the trash or outside if you compost.

For use on septic...

I've always been told you cannot use a disposer with a septic system. Of course there's a model with an enzyme injection system. But I'm wondering what the issue is to begin with? We are a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 kids. Our tank was installed in 1966...I'm guessing it's 1000 gallons, single compartment, no effluent filter. Basic setup. We have it pumped once every 2 years. Been living here for 15 years. No issues. We are remodeling our kitchen and are going to install the Evolution Excel. I want to be able to grind anything and everything (except we won't go to the length of grinding bones...that just doesn't seem right). If we're already sending body waste and toilet paper down to the tank, what's the problem with sending ground up food? Isn't it basically the same thing? (In terms of texture...maybe not the same in terms of decomposition since human waste's already got a head start). I can't see the point in getting a disposer that's got the liquid. If you have to spend $20 four times a year, might as well just have the tank pumped yearly. It's the same cost. Thoughts????
Asked by: Metalnath
We've used a disposer with our septic tank for 25 years. Never have had any issues. We have it pumped every other year but that is more due to having 5 women in the house than the disposer. We never add any chemicals or enzymes to the tank and frankly don't do anything to the tank other than pumping. I'd say you're safe from personal experience.

What stopper is included with the Evolution Excel?

Does this model include a stopper?
Asked by: Ericp
My unit came with the baffel that allow water to drain but keeps noise down and food from flying up when disposal is running. Also came with a stopper that fits into the top part of disposal to prevent water draining from sink, if you want to fill the sink basin with water for washing dishes. However, have never used the stopper so cannot comment on how water tight the seal would be.
