Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality - Excel Evolution This is a great product. I paid a bit higher than standard disposers but really glad I purchased this product. I replaced the one I've had for 15 years. This one is a little larger under the sink. Easy to install according to my contractor. It is sooooo much quitter than before, I can hardly tell it's working. It seems to be faster and stronger as well. I highly recommend this Insinkerator. The biggest con I have is the serial # is on the backside, so write it down before installing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC I researched disposals and the Evolution Excel received the highest ratings and it is the most expensive, but worth every penny. It's without a doubt the absolute best disposal I've ever had or used. It's extremely quiet and unlike other disposals when there's more work to do they make more noise, but not the Evolution Excel. I love it so much I've completely forgotten about the price, so don't let that discourage you from getting something that you use at least once a day if not more and you'll be glad you did. It's actually better than I ever thought possible and never did I know there's such a BIG difference in disposals because is this particular case you really do get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crazy Quiet We recently bought this product to replace our old Kenmore disposer. What a difference in the noise level. Compared to our old machine this one is super quiet. Installation was easy as all the connecting parts were similar to our old machine. Excellent product so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing on how quiet it is! I was very pleased with the disposers performance. The ease of installation was great. Really like the fact on how quiet the machine is. The only draw back that I can find it is a little heavier, due to the bigger motor. I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Amazing Addition to my Kitchen! I have wanted a food disposal system for a very long time. I am a vegan and daily die-hard juicer. I have A LOT of vegetable peels and waste. I was taking 2 compost bags to the garbage every day - it seemed like such as waste. Now I can put all of my peels down the drain and they're gone ! No more mess - its amazing !! I was telling my husband the other day - that this kitchen appliance is the best thing I have purchased in years !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Evolution Excel Insinkerator The disposal is extremely quiet and powerful and gets rid of waste effortlessly. It is a big improvement over our 12-year old model which was terribly noisy. We have only had this for a month. Thus far, we are very satisfied with the quality of the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and very quiet Wanted a more powerful but more importantly a quieter disposal. Have only had it about 3 weeks now but it must be the quietest disposal out there. Live in open floor plan so it operates about 8feet behind me while watching tv. Much nicer than old disposal. So far everything goes down easy, even some small chicken bones and potatoe peels. I had it installed because at 70 yo and two rotator cuff repairs it was too heavy for me. Instructions were clear and were all doable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement Our 25 year old insinkerator was still working but the drain pipe was copper and was leaking. Rather than try to fix the pipe I decided that our original one was ready for replacement. The new one is so much more quieter than the original one and the ease of installation was simple and quick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product This replaced an 8 year-old Badger that sprang a leak. I installed it myself - excellent instructions and the installation was easy. It's a bigger unit than the Badger so you need to be sure you have enough space. It's MUCH quieter than the Badger and has virtually no vibration. I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Replacement Unit This is our third disposal and the first Insinkerator. The original in the house was trash and died after just a couple of years. The replacement was a Kenmore which lasted 15 years. But the Kenmore was built by Insinkerator so, name notwithstanding, I replaced an Insinkerator with another. Finally getting very loud and a little temperamental so I replaced it with the new model. Its still way too early to know the longevity of the unit but it installed easily and is much quieter than the old unit was even when it was new. It grinds quickly and seems to be able to handle anything we throw in there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs as advertised This machine does what it advertised. It was the most expensive of the units we considered, but worth the price if you want quiet and performance in what it grinds. Only concern is its weight, so we felt we had to support it from its bottom to the base of the cabinet as we have a composite under mount sink -- highly recommended from our counter/sink installers. That limits the space available for storage under the sink, especially since this unit is the biggest model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Rolls Royce of Garbage Disposals at a Lamborghini Price! This is touted as one of the best garbage disposals on the market, and I can't say I disagree. This sucker is good but it ain't cheap, and I can't tell you how many of my lame-o armchair friends (who have never touched a pipe wrench in their lives) told me that you shouldn't spend a lot of money on a garbage disposal because eventually the sink collar putty dries out and water leakage renders the unit useless. That may be, and surely that is what happened to the old one, but not for about six years, and when you want to install a unit like this yourself, you shouldn't cheap out, especially if you have never done it before. ISE does claim that it is easy to install. I sort of agree, but what they do NOT tell you are some of the little tricks, traps, and pitfalls that can confront you in the process. I would recommend getting this one if your old one is ISE or ISE-made Kenmore, because the installation process can be "reverse engineered" to get the old one out, and let me tell you, if it gets to the point mine got to, removing it will not be easy! Also, watch some YouTube vids on how to do it, it will help. Further, if you don't already have it, install an outlet down there and buy the optional three-prong "pigtail" extension for it. This is the clean way to do it, and will make installation and removal of this and future units much easier if you are not comfortable around electric wires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super quiet It is unbelievable how quiet this disposal is. Installation is a little tough for one person in a tight space as the unit is a little heavy. Overall well worth the money and effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BIg, quiet, effective We decided to "go for broke" and get the top of the line. It's quiet and works well. It's also big and on the heavy side. You'll need help installing, even with the easy fit collar thingy. You may need to cut the discharge tube. We bought a third party telescoping tube that was easy to fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Bought this waste disposer to replace a Kenmore that I’ve bought 2 years ago (what a piece of trash). This one was very easy to install, it is much quieter and just hope it will last much longer.
Date published: 2018-03-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy With Product Purchased only because our community is wanting yet another separation of garbage. Any food waste is supposed to go into yet another container in the kitchen. YIKES!!! We have a tiny kitchen. I collect everything for the garborator during the day, then after dinner run the disposer. It is quiet, until you put disposables into it, then it can be somewhat noisy. I worry about bothering the person downstairs with noise.
Date published: 2018-03-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best performace and price for a compact disposer First and foremost, this disposer really is amazingly quiet!! And I absolutely love quiet appliances! Even willing to pay extra for them. But, it is also a high quality product, powerful enough for anything. Good looking also, if that matters. Oh, and also compact in size. Installation is easy, even for most who have never installed a disposer before. You'll want to make sure you have plumber's putty on hand and maybe a power cord kit with strain relief. Instructions seemed well written and easy to follow. Then there is the excellent warranty for peace of mind. All from a company that has been in this line of business for many years. The only minor negative for some might be the price, though I personally found it to be reasonable all things considered.

Top (visible) grinders change directly at each turn on?

Just installed the new Evolution Excel. Runs, is very quiet. I noticed that it pauses for a moment before turning on with a slight hum. Once it kicks into operation the grinders start turning. Then the next time I turn it on it has the same pause and then the grinders start, but in the opposite direction. Is this normal?

how to turn on the disposal

Asked by: larchmont
You need to wire it into a switch, the unit itself doesn't have a switch. The unit will turn on when it gets power. Usually this is done by wiring it to a wall switch beside the sink, or by using a relay that is controlled with a surface mount sink switch.

can I grind banana peels? what kind of bones? steak bones? turkey bones? melon skins?

Asked by: newgrinder
I always stay away from grinding stringy foods such as banana peels, celery, corn silk, etc. I tore apart a brand new disposal that had been used to try to grind corn silk. Quite a job, but I got it done. Lesson learned and we've avoided grinding stringy foods since. Grind an orange or lemon peel once a week and disposal smells great!

French Press Coffee Grinds

Hi I don't have a garden to dispose of my coffee grinds in but I would like to know that I can dispose of them in my Evolution Excel on a regular basis? Running cold water, turning on the disposal, and then disposing of the grinds and letting the water and disposal run a little longer after grinding should be okay? Is that correct? Thank you!
Asked by: Seek
Should not be a problem as long as you run lots of water. We put everything in ours, even grease. But make sure you run hot water with grease long enough to clear your lines, otherwise the grease can congeal and clog. That's why the manufacturers always tell you not to use hot water. But hot cleans everything out the best, as long as you let it run awhile.

Can a sink top air switch be used on the Excel?

I have just installed the Excel, which is performing well so far, but there is nowhere on the unit for the air switch hook up. We had the hole drilled in the countertop when the house was built, so don't want to be left looking at that! There is nothing in the instructions showing that the air switch can be added. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks
Asked by: Rodmills
Insinkerator makes an air switch in either a single or dual plug. The air switch plugs into a regular outlet and the disposal plugs into the switch. Then there is a vacuum tube from the air switch to the counter top button that controls on and off. The button comes in many different finishes. Very easy to install by an individual.

JohnC, Had the same issue. Called the company - check your literature that came with the unit - they first gave me the name of a local service tech, who gave me the run-around. Your local service guy may be better. I called the company again and suggested they send me a new unit, which they did. I removed the old unit and installed the new one in less than an hour. For use on septic...

I've always been told you cannot use a disposer with a septic system. Of course there's a model with an enzyme injection system. But I'm wondering what the issue is to begin with? We are a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 kids. Our tank was installed in 1966...I'm guessing it's 1000 gallons, single compartment, no effluent filter. Basic setup. We have it pumped once every 2 years. Been living here for 15 years. No issues. We are remodeling our kitchen and are going to install the Evolution Excel. I want to be able to grind anything and everything (except we won't go to the length of grinding bones...that just doesn't seem right). If we're already sending body waste and toilet paper down to the tank, what's the problem with sending ground up food? Isn't it basically the same thing? (In terms of texture...maybe not the same in terms of decomposition since human waste's already got a head start). I can't see the point in getting a disposer that's got the liquid. If you have to spend $20 four times a year, might as well just have the tank pumped yearly. It's the same cost. Thoughts????
Asked by: Metalnath
We've used a disposer with our septic tank for 25 years. Never have had any issues. We have it pumped every other year but that is more due to having 5 women in the house than the disposer. We never add any chemicals or enzymes to the tank and frankly don't do anything to the tank other than pumping. I'd say you're safe from personal experience.

Does this model include a stopper?
Asked by: Ericp
My unit came with the baffel that allow water to drain but keeps noise down and food from flying up when disposal is running. Also came with a stopper that fits into the top part of disposal to prevent water draining from sink, if you want to fill the sink basin with water for washing dishes. However, have never used the stopper so cannot comment on how water tight the seal would be.
