Rated 5 out of 5 by from A bit of a challenge on install but overall excellent thus far ~ a few months in See summary but I'd follow the directions a bit closer on previous uninstall. Wiring is last after you can flip it over. Turn off electric first but disconnect wires when your not in your back under the sink ~ lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than others... I had it installed, so I can not comment on ease of installation, though the installer had no problems. With other disposals I have had egg shells peeled from boiled eggs clog the drain, not with this one, down they went. It is quiet and takes the pepper tops and lettuce hearts that we feed it all in stride without even any noticeable change in quietness... Yes it is more expensive in the short run... but in the long run I am hoping it will be less trouble and last longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet It is very quiet but large and difficult to install because of its weight and need to re-plumb since it didn't line up with old plumbing. Probably will need to pay a plumber. Previous insinkerstors have rusted out in about 5 years. ( we do have very aggressive water) . The company offered a 50% cost reduction which prompted me to buy this " top of the line" unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Upgrade to Original Disposer After 9 years our Badger basic model started leaking out of the bottom of the disposer. The Badger always worked well, but was very loud and vibrated the sink to the point that I often thought the sink would come loose from the counter. The Evolution Excel is nearly silent and creates a nice hum as it effortlessly grinds through food. Installation was easy with the quick connect system. Impressed with the upgrade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great...wife is happy The only issue I had installing it was the weight and getting the dish out Asher hose to be the correct size. Installation is easy but trying to hold it up while getting it in the right position took a few tries due to the limited space under the sink. The dishwasher hose was just a little long from the previous one but it was an easy fix Works great and overall very easy to install

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet Food Disposal We remodeled our kitchen and the disposal we had worked fine bu it was a 3/4 HP and was 25 years old. We decided to upgrade to 1 HP and our friends who had gotten an InSinkErator said it was very good. The Evolution Excel InsinkErator was easy to install and is very quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Ferrari of food waste disposers The Evolution Excel is the top of the line in the universe of food waste disposers. It performs exceptionally well and is exceedingly quiet. This is a substantial, heavy duty unit with some heft. This installation replaced a prior InSinkErator unit (Evolution Compact Garbage Disposal) that suffered a partial breakdown. The Evolution Excel takes up more space under your sink than the compact version and it weighs considerably more. Installation instructions were straightforward and easy to understand. Tip: try using a hydraulic car jack like I did to help hold, raise, and position the unit up to the mount so you can twist it on the mounting ring. Positioning this unit to the mounting ring totally by hand without using a jack will be difficult.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from would never buy again Bought this item after reading all of the rave reviews. Brand new, out of the box, this unit makes considerable noise when turned on or won't turn at all, just sits there and makes a humming sound. Have only tried to run water through unit. Installed by a registered plumber, wired by an registered electrician. Unable to use. After contacting the dealer I bought it from and finding out I can't return it, they gave me the customer support line at insinkerator. After the usual try this, try that, I am then given the local company that does the warranty work. They on the other hand tell me that there is a 99.9% chance that this is my fault and that I have to agree to pay a minimum fee of $138.00 or they won't even come out. They are assuming that the knockout plug for the dishwasher was not removed from the unit and is now lodged inside and that the unit itself is not defective. I was informed by customer support at insinkerator that the knockout plug, if left inside could NOT pass through to the lower stages. It would get stuck on top where it would be visible and removable. The plumber is 100% positive that he removed the knockout. It has been 3 weeks and I am really annoyed with this whole process. $350 for the unit, $150 for the plumber and electrician. Can't use the dishwasher or the sink and the warranty company is giving me the runaround.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EVolution Excel :Works perfectly and is super quiet - I'm completely satisfied I had been thinking about this purchase for quite some time. Back home garbage is collected every night making the need for food waste disposers not something most people think about, however when I came to Canada I was shocked at the idea of having food waste waiting for a week to be picked up, specially in the summer with all the flies and raccoons and who knows what else. It took us a long time but we finally got our own house and when as we remodeled the kitchen the first thought was... I think I really want one. We have this one for about a month and it is everything I expected it to be, just much quieter than the ones I had seen in my friends houses :) With 6 people living in the house, there are always fruit and potato peels, vegetable waste, all kinds of things that we are now not keeping for a week until collection day, I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Install & quiet I have been shopping for a disposal fro some time and after reviewing all the different models I am so glad I picked this one. It was a snap to install and it is so quiet compared to what I had, we have been using it for about a month and everything is working great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really like it This replaced a light weight garbage disposal that died within 3 years of installation. OK I admit to reading comments, reviews etc.. & doing some research beforehand this time. The installation issues were only due to the cramped quarters in the sink area following a total house rewire & ok, just a few items in storage in under the sink area. Directions were easy for hubby & son to follow & boy is it really quiet in comparison to any disposal I have ever worked with & that includes commercial kitchens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built to last and super quiet. While there are many features in the unit, there are three that standout. 1. Built to last. 2. Super-quiet and 3. Backed by a great warranty and service plan.

It most likely overheated and popped the thermal breaker. Make sure it's off, and push the red button on the bottom. If that doesn't work, check the plug.

Top (visible) grinders change directly at each turn on?

Just installed the new Evolution Excel. Runs, is very quiet. I noticed that it pauses for a moment before turning on with a slight hum. Once it kicks into operation the grinders start turning. can I grind banana peels? what kind of bones? steak bones? turkey bones? melon skins?

Asked by: newgrinder
I always stay away from grinding stringy foods such as banana peels, celery, corn silk, etc. I tore apart a brand new disposal that had been used to try to grind corn silk. Quite a job, but I got it done. Lesson learned and we've avoided grinding stringy foods since. Grind an orange or lemon peel once a week and disposal smells great!

French Press Coffee Grinds

Hi I don't have a garden to dispose of my coffee grinds in but I would like to know that I can dispose of them in my Evolution Excel on a regular basis? Running cold water, turning on the disposal, and then disposing of the grinds and letting the water and disposal run a little longer after grinding should be okay? Is that correct? Thank you!
Asked by: Seek
Should not be a problem as long as you run lots of water. We put everything in ours, even grease. But make sure you run hot water with grease long enough to clear your lines, otherwise the grease can congeal and clog. That's why the manufacturers always tell you not to use hot water. But hot cleans everything out the best, as long as you let it run awhile.

It''s hard to empty coffee grounds into the disposal. Can I just put the filter with the grounds in the disposed & grind it up? I have a new Evolution Excel.
Asked by: NewUser
I would never attempt to grind the filter along with the coffee grounds. We've had no issue disposing of the grounds alone. It's easy to rinse the filter to rid it of the grounds, so why tempt fate?

how to turn on the disposal

Asked by: larchmont
It has to be wired to switched power. Typically there is either a switched plug under your sink or wiring to hook up to it directly to a switch. They sell a power cord kit seperatley to allow you to plug it in.

Can a sink top air switch be used on the Excel?

I have just installed the Excel, which is performing well so far, but there is nowhere on the unit for the air switch hook up. We had the hole drilled in the countertop when the house was built, so don't want to be left looking at that! There is nothing in the instructions showing that the air switch can be added. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks
Asked by: Rodmills
Insinkerator makes an air switch in either a single or dual plug. The air switch plugs into a regular outlet and the disposal plugs into the switch. Then there is a vacuum tube from the air switch to the counter top button that controls on and off. The button comes in many different finishes. Very easy to install by an individual.

JohnC, Had the same issue. Called the company - check your literature that came with the unit - they first gave me the name of a local service tech, who gave me the run-around. Your local service guy may be better. I called the company again and suggested they send me a new unit, which they did. I removed the old unit and installed the new one in less than an hour. For use on septic...

I've always been told you cannot use a disposer with a septic system. Of course there's a model with an enzyme injection system. But I'm wondering what the issue is to begin with? We are a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 kids. Our tank was installed in 1966...I'm guessing it's 1000 gallons, single compartment, no effluent filter. Basic setup. We have it pumped once every 2 years. Been living here for 15 years. No issues. We are remodeling our kitchen and are going to install the Evolution Excel. I want to be able to grind anything and everything (except we won't go to the length of grinding bones...that just doesn't seem right). If we're already sending body waste and toilet paper down to the tank, what's the problem with sending ground up food? Isn't it basically the same thing? (In terms of texture...maybe not the same in terms of decomposition since human waste's already got a head start). I can't see the point in getting a disposer that's got the liquid. If you have to spend $20 four times a year, might as well just have the tank pumped yearly. It's the same cost. Thoughts????
Asked by: Metalnath
We've used a disposer with our septic tank for 25 years. Never have had any issues. We have it pumped every other year but that is more due to having 5 women in the house than the disposer. We never add any chemicals or enzymes to the tank and frankly don't do anything to the tank other than pumping. I'd say you're safe from personal experience.

What stopper is included with the Evolution Excel?

Does this model include a stopper?
Asked by: Ericp
My unit came with the baffel that allow water to drain but keeps noise down and food from flying up when disposal is running. Also came with a stopper that fits into the top part of disposal to prevent water draining from sink, if you want to fill the sink basin with water for washing dishes. However, have never used the stopper so cannot comment on how water tight the seal would be.
