Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding disposal disposal Is very, very quiet. Grinds up items with ease. Hardly tell it is on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly quiet product I have had a number of garbage disposal products in the past. When it came time to replace my existing unit due to a leak I looked at all the Insinkerator products and settled on the Evolution Excel. It was a little bit more but what I got in return was a product that is quieter than than the flow of water from the tap and my whole sink doesn’t vibrate when it runs. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Disposal! Our garbage disposal died, and we've been in the house less than one year. I had no idea how old it was, but regardless, I needed a new one. I spent hours researching new disposals and finally settled on this one after reading some consumer product reviews. I can tell you it does everything it says. This disposal is so quiet my wife and I can talk to each other using a normal conversational tone when one of us is standing over it while it's running and the other is 15 feet away. It is extremely easy to install. I took out the old sink mount so I could install everything new. Had I not, installation would have been 5 minutes. That being said, the directions were clear and easy to understand. I spent a total of about 20-25 minutes installing, including removal of the old parts, cleaning the old plumber's putty out and replacing it, then installing the new disposal. I love the SS grinding chamber, 3 stage grinding, and insulation package. I've had no problem with leaks (they redesigned the discharge tube and it's awesome!) nor anything else. Great product!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Quiet - Evolution Excel It is so quiet compared to the 18 year old unit I pulled out, could almost forget it is on! That could be dangerous, so remember to shut it off. Worth the extra money for the top of the line unit, expect 20 years out of this one. The old one hadn't failed, just wanted to a new unit and cleaned all the piping out because of excessive stink (THAT WAS SCARY!) Should pull the piping every few years and clean it, or at least pour a half gallon of bleach down your pipes yearly and let it sit overnight!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is very quiet and grinds foods, celery, potatoe skins etc. better than any other. I would recommend this absolutely. I threw out my other Insinkerator because I would always get clogs in my drain lines that run horizontal in the basement. The new one never had a clog and am very happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommend this company and their products! This disposal is quiet and works great. The customer service was excellent on any issues I had with my old one and the purchasing of my new one. I wanted to the plumbing to match up to make it easier to replace and they were knowledgeable on their product. My old one was over 20 years old, I hope the new one lasts like the old one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor performance. I bought the disposer with the expectation that it would quickly handle cocktail-sized lime wedges and cubed watermelon rinds with ease. Not the case. Who cares how quiet the decibels are if you can't use it. Disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very quiet and powerful I purchased the Insinkerator Evolution on line directly from Insinkerator after speaking with the customer service agent. She was very helpful and I got a nice discount. The installation went very smoothly (under 1 hour) utilizing my local plumber. It is a nice looking unit, stainless steel, even though you do not really see it. Most importantly my wife likes it! I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product has super quality My husband and I love this product. We had a previous InSinkErator Disposer, but it was a lower model and really noisy. We have one of those open kitchen/family room areas and every time I turned our old one on my husband would pause or turn the TV up loader then have to turn it back down after I was done running the unit. This new version Evolution Excel is well worth the money. We have had several garbage disposals over the 50 years and this is the quietest one I have ever heard. I didn't even know they made them this quiet at all. You can't go wrong on this unit, the best we have ever had. I can't even tell if it's grinding up the food cause it does it so FAST and QUIET, Really!!!!! Love it Plus a 7year warranty on parts, labor, and house call is for FREE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product This garburator is much quieter than my old one. I purchased it for a month now and it is working so far so good. I have a double sink and when the insinkerator is in operation, water is backing up in the adjacent sink. I don't know whether this is normal or not? Will somebody give me an answer to this?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best disposal The previous of the owner had this brand. It was the best garbage disposal we ever had. Never had any problems with it. It took the garbage out immediately with no issues. So when it finally wore out. We decided to go with the same brand. Their customer service was amazing. They gave us a code for a nice discount and instructions on how to set it. They didn’t have the same model as the old one but the new sinkarator is even better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product however This is by far the most powerful disposal I have found and also one of the quietest motors. This is my 2nd unit because the first one failed (jammed) after 7 years. Tried to free it up but no luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very fast and very quiet. I love that it is so fast and quiet. Having the removable splash gasket makes so much sense.
Date published: 2017-10-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet and Efficient I purchased the Evolution Excel because it was the best model and I wanted the power and durability. The Excel was installed professionally in a newly built home but the drain clogged after a month and a plumber had to snake the drain to unclog a small mass of celery. I did not realize that celery should not be put through the Insinkerator despite how robust the machine is. Outside of that the machine has been reliable and is very quiet, much quieter than I anticipated. We've only been in the new home for 3 months so it's too early to speak to overall reliability and durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Disposal It installed easy. It had the same installation method as my 12 year old Sears unit. I still replaced the mount just incase there was a slight difference. When we turned it on, we realized the difference. Very quiet. The water running made more noise. The hose mounting to the drain is completely different to reduce noise, but attached just as easily. This certainly appears to be a company listening to the consumer and getting what you pay for. The only thing I found in the old disposal that I don't think there is a complete cure for is fat deposit near the output. Maybe the second stage of this disposal will help. I never had clogging, The old disposal failed from what appeared to be a bearing failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and Quiet! I replaced the 1/2 hp disposal that was in the house we recently purchased with this unit. The kitchen and living room are open concept and every time we ran the old one we couldn't hear anything above the roar. The Evolution Excel is amazingly quiet - you can hardly tell it is on. The Excel is also so much more powerful. This thing takes care of pretty much anything you can throw at it! One other thing I love is the removable rubber drain gasket. Makes it so much easier to keep clean.

It most likely overheated and popped the thermal breaker. Make sure it's off, and push the red button on the bottom. If that doesn't work, check the plug.

Top (visible) grinders change directly at each turn on?

Just installed the new Evolution Excel. Runs, is very quiet. I noticed that it pauses for a moment before turning on with a slight hum. Once it kicks into operation the grinders start turning. Then the next time I turn it on it has the same pause and then the grinders start, but in the opposite direction. Is this normal?

can I grind banana peels? what kind of bones? steak bones? turkey bones? melon skins?

Asked by: newgrinder
I always stay away from grinding stringy foods such as banana peels, celery, corn silk, etc. I tore apart a brand new disposal that had been used to try to grind corn silk. Quite a job, but I got it done. Lesson learned and we've avoided grinding stringy foods since. Grind an orange or lemon peel once a week and disposal smells great!

French Press Coffee Grinds

Hi I don't have a garden to dispose of my coffee grinds in but I would like to know that I can dispose of them in my Evolution Excel on a regular basis? Running cold water, turning on the disposal, and then disposing of the grinds and letting the water and disposal run a little longer after grinding should be okay? Is that correct? Thank you!
Asked by: Seek
Should not be a problem as long as you run lots of water. We put everything in ours, even grease. But make sure you run hot water with grease long enough to clear your lines, otherwise the grease can congeal and clog. That's why the manufacturers always tell you not to use hot water. But hot cleans everything out the best, as long as you let it run awhile.

It''s hard to empty coffee grounds into the disposal. Can I just put the filter with the grounds in the disposed & grind it up? I have a new Evolution Excel.

I would never attempt to grind the filter along with the coffee grounds. We've had no issue disposing of the grounds alone. It's easy to rinse the filter to rid it of the grounds, so why tempt fate?

how to turn on the disposal

It has to be wired to switched power. Typically there is either a switched plug under your sink or wiring to hook up to it directly to a switch. They sell a power cord kit seperatley to allow you to plug it in.

Can a sink top air switch be used on the Excel?

I have just installed the Excel, which is performing well so far, but there is nowhere on the unit for the air switch hook up. We had the hole drilled in the countertop when the house was built, so don't want to be left looking at that! There is nothing in the instructions showing that the air switch can be added. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks
Asked by: Rodmills
Insinkerator makes an air switch in either a single or dual plug. The air switch plugs into a regular outlet and the disposal plugs into the switch. Then there is a vacuum tube from the air switch to the counter top button that controls on and off. The button comes in many different finishes. Very easy to install by an individual.

JohnC, Had the same issue. Called the company - check your literature that came with the unit - they first gave me the name of a local service tech, who gave me the run-around. Your local service guy may be better. I called the company again and suggested they send me a new unit, which they did. I removed the old unit and installed the new one in less than an hour. For use on septic...

I've always been told you cannot use a disposer with a septic system. Of course there's a model with an enzyme injection system. But I'm wondering what the issue is to begin with? We are a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 kids. Our tank was installed in 1966...I'm guessing it's 1000 gallons, single compartment, no effluent filter. Basic setup. We have it pumped once every 2 years. Been living here for 15 years. No issues. We are remodeling our kitchen and are going to install the Evolution Excel. I want to be able to grind anything and everything (except we won't go to the length of grinding bones...that just doesn't seem right). If we're already sending body waste and toilet paper down to the tank, what's the problem with sending ground up food? Isn't it basically the same thing? (In terms of texture...maybe not the same in terms of decomposition since human waste's already got a head start). I can't see the point in getting a disposer that's got the liquid. If you have to spend $20 four times a year, might as well just have the tank pumped yearly. It's the same cost. Thoughts????
Asked by: Metalnath
We've used a disposer with our septic tank for 25 years. Never have had any issues. We have it pumped every other year but that is more due to having 5 women in the house than the disposer. We never add any chemicals or enzymes to the tank and frankly don't do anything to the tank other than pumping. I'd say you're safe from personal experience.

Describe the 3 stages of grind in the Evolution Excel

The Excel is described as having MultiGrind technology with three stages of grind. What stopper is included with the Evolution Excel?

Does this model include a stopper?
Asked by: Ericp
My unit came with the baffel that allow water to drain but keeps noise down and food from flying up when disposal is running. Also came with a stopper that fits into the top part of disposal to prevent water draining from sink, if you want to fill the sink basin with water for washing dishes. However, have never used the stopper so cannot comment on how water tight the seal would be.
