Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommend, especially for installation in a strong sink We installed this garbage disposal in our new house after being pleased with its performance in our previous place. I don't worry about clogging up the septic because it adds a solution to aid in biodegrading. I was concerned that we may use lots of solution, but I only need to change bottles every year or so. It is very powerful, so I recommend putting it in a sink with heavier gauge steel. Our first place had a cheap sink, and it vibrated a lot. Installing it in a sink with 18 gauge steel is perfect; it is pretty quiet, considering its strength.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work well I am only using this disposal to grind simple food, like rinsing plates before washing. The orange peel I put down took several days to work out, and that was even with me turning the disposal on and off several times. I can't get my hand inside to pull the peel out, so had to keep working at it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Now that I have finally installed this, it's great. The directions to install were a bit confusing. However, after four hours, it was in, and I'm happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for Septic System When I moved into my home, I was told that a garbage disposal was not recommended with a septic system, then I found the Evolution Septic Assist food waste disposer specifically designed for homes with septic systems. It appears to work great but I've only had it a couple of months. It is very quiet and does the job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installation Problem We were replacing an Insinkerator Septic that had died, In 20+ years this is the 3rd Septic Disposer to be installed. This is in our lake home and therefore does not get used very much which may be why they fail do to lack of regular use. Problem is that Insinkerator has changed where the discharge pipe is and how it connects to the unit. Therefore it did not properly connect to our existing plumbing. I had to redo part of the kitchen drain lines in order to get a proper connection that would flow out of the unit. Otherwise, if the drain connections had not been modified, the disposer would not fully drain after each use. The second unit that we had was replaced under warranty and it was an easy change with the original disposer as the drain hookup was the same.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product with one exception Great product except it frequently causes the breaker to trip. If you start it with no water running and nothing in the disposal it usually works. I read a similar comment in another review so it is likely a design issue. It is quiet and I like the enzyme injection feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great noise reduction over previous model Our old one plugged up on thanksgiving & we ordered this new one & had to wait a week so we were w/o onefor a week! When the new one arrived there were a few changes from the previous model, our sink configuration has a small sink on the left which is shallow with the insinkerator the right sink is standard & the dish washer is to the right of that. The new tube from the dish washer had to be bent to meet the opening which was higher than the older one, the. New one was shorter. The shorter model allowed for more storage under which is a plus. The new unit is more silent which is great. All in all we are happy with the new style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a quiet powerful disposer, great for septic systems This replaced an older incinerators that had worn out. It was easily installed using the existing mounting ring in the sink drain. This unit is quiet and powerful and I expect it will serve us well from many years. I like the addition of the enzymes to keep the septic system healthy.

Answer:
Hi, this is Jerica from InSinkErator® Customer Service. The disposer is not designed to run indefinitely and the motor will overheat in approximately 15 – 20 minutes. Running hot water instead of cold water while the disposer is in use will also cause it to overheat. This will cause the overload protector button (red reset button at the bottom of the unit) to drop down or “pop” out, disconnecting the internal circuit, and the disposer will shut off. In case this happens to your disposer, just let it cool for several minutes and then press the reset button. Once the reset button stays up, you may test your disposer again. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through [email protected] or call InSinkErator AnswerLine at 1 (800) 558-5700. Thank you.

Answer:
Hi MarkTu,

Your disposer has a solenoid that injects a small amount of biocharge into the chamber every time the disposer is turned on. The amount injected is approximately 1/3 teaspoon, so there are about 295 uses per bottle. This is a small amount and so, dependent upon how often the disposer is used, the level in the bottle may not appear to be dropping. You can check to be sure that the disposer is injecting the biocharge using the following steps:

1. Obtain a large (approximately 10 ¾” x 11) clean, dry, sheet of paper towel (preferably white).

2. Roll the paper towel into a cylinder and using a ruler, mark a line 4 1/2 inches from one end.

3. Insert the marked end paper towel through the quiet collar and into the chamber of the unit until the line is level with the top of the sink flange.

4. Do not put you hand into the chamber, simply hold the paper towel above the level of the sink flange.

5. Do not run water, but flip the switch on and off one time. You can simply turn it on and then off right away. There is no need to let the disposer run.

6. Pull out the paper towel and check to see if there is any blue residue. If there is blue residue on the paper towel, it would indicate that the solenoid is ejecting the Biocharge into the chamber. Properly discard paper towel taking care to avoid contact with the Biocharge residue on it. As indicated on the bottle, take care to avoid contact with eyes, open cuts or sores. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes. Check with physician. Wash hands after contact.

Answer:
Hi CabinBob,

Thank you for contacting InSinkErator®.

An odor from a disposer could be a sign of grease and food buildup. Also, over time, food particles may accumulate under the splash baffle. To clean the disposer, please follow the steps listed below.

1. Make sure power to the disposer is off.

2. With a soapy scouring pad, clean the underside of the non-removable mounting gasket/splash baffle and the inside upper lip of the grind chamber.

3. Place the stopper in sink opening and fill sink halfway with warm water.

4. Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with the water.

5. Turn the disposer on and then remove the stopper from sink hole opening. This will flood the grind chamber to wash away loose particles.

This procedure may cause the disposer to vibrate and this would be considered normal. While it is acceptable to perform this procedure occasionally, it should not be done on an everyday basis.

Other options to eliminate odor include grinding bones. The disposer is designed to grind bones. Bones create a scouring action that scrape off leftover particles that may cause odor. We recommend that bones be ground periodically. Grinding citrus peels occasionally will also help to freshen up the disposer.
Lastly, disposers may also be cleaned with garbage disposal cleaners. We recommend Disposer Care®. This product is not sold by InSinkErator, but is generally available in major home improvement centers, hardware, and grocery stores. For more information on Disposer Care®, contact Summit Brands, Inc. at 1-888-476-6688 or www.summitbrands.com.

If the information/steps above did not help resolve the problem, you may also want to check your plumbing configuration to be sure that this is not the source of the issue.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through [email protected] or call InSinkErator AnswerLine at 1 (800) 558-5700.

Sincerely,

Jerica
